TAKE OUR KIDS TO WORK DAY NOVEMBER 1

Wednesday, November 1, 2017The Delta School District recognizes the value of Take Our Kids to Work on November 1, 2017.   This national career event takes place annually on the first Wednesday of November.  It is organized voluntarily between and by parents and their employers. The experience may help students meet the following learning outcomes in Career Education 9:·    Describe ways of exploring career options (e.g., job shadowing, mentoring, volunteering)·    Identify sources of information and support to assist them in their education and career planning (e.g., family, mentors, school and career counselling centres, coaches, web sites, libraries)·    Explain the importance of developing employability skills (e.g., employability skills are transferable to all areas of a student’s life, including school, leisure, part-time employment, future careersThrough job shadowing the community is able to play a part in the career development of Grade 9 students.  The primary objective of Take Our Kids to Work is linking classroom learning with the community and giving students new insights into a parent’s occupation and role in providing for the family.  The experience enhances students’ understanding of jobs in the context of the working community; encourages students to stay in school; recognizes the importance of life-long learning in pursuing career opportunities; and creates a relationship between business, labor and education.Notification forms and information will be distributed to Grade 9 students shortly.   For further information, visit http://www.thelearningpartnership.ca/what-we-do/student-programs/take-ou....
